Our Eco-Conscious Photography Policy
Here at Siân T. Photography we are about more than just making pictures - we’re about making a difference in the world. That means making a difference to our customers and to society, and to the environment.
We’re committed to our plan to minimise any negative impacts and maximise our opportunities to benefit the natural world - all our customers are part of this commitment.
Care when working in the countryside
We love making photos outdoors and so do our clients. Doing so responsibly means taking care to leave no trace such as litter or damage to plants, sticking to footpaths, and avoiding disturbing delicate wildlife such as nesting birds.
Recycling
We’re moving towards fully recycled and recyclable materials for our print marketing and packaging. These materials have a beautiful organic feel that we love and we hope our customers do too. We recycle all our paper, card, printer cartridges, recyclable plastic and glass waste and where things cannot be recycled we look to re-use them wherever possible. We encourage all our customers to recycle our packaging rather than sending it to landfill.
Buying Locally & Responsibly
We’re on the hunt for local suppliers for everything we buy for the business. This is a work in progress but an important one to reduce our transport impact.
Where ever possible we buy our equipment used. Cameras, lighting and other equipment require metals and plastics which are high impact to obtain and produce and which may not be recyclable. Buying used ensures the maximum lifetime for such products and reduces what we send to landfill.
Greener Photo Printing
We have moved to printing our own fine art paper prints using new recycled / recyclable papers and are looking at all the products we offer to ensure the best products. Our priority is to create products that last, so they stay on your wall and not in the bin - however, greener materials, inks and production techniques are under investigation.
Responsible AI use
We are very aware of the high environmental costs of the current AI boom. AI infrastructure uses vast amounts of power and water to keep it running and while we don’t believe that all AI is bad, we are committed to minimising our use to safeguard these valuable global resources. We have switched to AI free search through Duck Duck Go and we will not be using generative AI to create new elements for, or make significant changes to our images - the old ways have served us well and will continue to do so. We will where it is more efficient to do so, use some AI in our image clean up but use of these tools with Photoshop will be done consciously and not by default. We will not use AI for image culling or for marketing or content creation.
